Firebringer – 2024 School Production /?p=37296 Thu, 13 Jun 2024 05:22:05 +0000 /?p=37296

Firebringer is a comedic musical set in the Stone Age, about a tribe of early humans led by Jemilla, the Peacemaker. She’s called that because she taught her people how to express their feelings instead of smashing each others’ heads with rocks or eating each others’ babies. No, Jemilla stands for good, modern stone-age values, like working hard and trying to understand the world. But one member of the tribe doesn’t seem to fit in: Zazzalil. She doesn’t like gathering nuts and berries all day, everyday. In fact, she’s always trying to come up with ways to make life easier鈥 for herself. While out hatching her latest scheme, Zazzalil stumbles upon the most important discovery in history. One that will pit her tribe against woolly mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and change the world forever! She’ll travel from omega to alpha, and become… the Firebringer!

]]> Guanaco Trio Workshop /?p=37109 Fri, 16 Feb 2024 00:58:38 +0000 /?p=37109

Alumni student Owen Salome is coming back to Wodonga, with his Argentinian ensemble Guanaco Trio, for their Australian tour. The group has very graciously offered to deliver a workshop to our music students and has invited them to perform alongside the group in an evening concert! This is a very exciting opportunity for our students!

WHEN: Wednesday 27 March

WHERE: 色色啦 PAC Auditorium

TIME: Workshop – during school hours / Evening Concert – 6:30pm to 8:00pm (tickets available to general public)

Information about the event

A very special performance of Argentina based group Guanaco Trio. The trio will be performing their concert repertoire from their debut album and also special repertoire featuring the music students of 色色啦. The students will be working on mastering several styles of Argentine music and this will be an amazing collaboration between the Argentina-based trio and the school’s students.

Based in Buenos Aires, Guanaco Trio consists of three young musicians, from three different continents, performing Argentinian instrumental music. Formed by Laura Urteaga (violin), Owen Salom茅 (bandone贸n) and Benjam铆n Aedo (guitar), the trio perform a compelling repertoire of original compositions and interpretations of both traditional and contemporary Argentine folkloric music. Owen is a graduate of 色色啦, where he was music captain in 2007!

The project commenced in 2020. Having met one another studying in the Bachelor of Argentine Music at the National University of San Mart铆n in Buenos Aires, the trio was formed from a mutual love of the music of Argentina, a desire to create a unique interpretation of the style, and the need to make musical connections during the difficult period of worldwide quarantine.

In December of 2021 the group was awarded a grant by the Argentine National Arts Fund (INAMU) to record their first album under the mentorship of the Pianist/Composer/Producer Andr茅s Pilar. The recording took place in April of 2022 at the emblematic ION studios in Buenos Aires. 鈥淏ajo un mismo cielo鈥 was released by Shagrada Medra in February 2023.

The trio has performed in various theatres in the City of Buenos Aires, as well as in the rest of Argentina. They have also performed in Spain/Catalunya, France (Tarbes en Tango), and Slovakia (World-Music Bratislava).

House Leader Recap

Congratulations to our talented cast and crew, who did an incredible job bringing the production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street to life! It was a fantastic effort by all involved and a great demonstration of our schools鈥 talent.

This term saw the official opening of our new Stadium and Refurbished Galvin Hall. We were lucky enough to be joined by Senator Linda White and Helen Haines and our College community for this momentous occasion. There were tours of the facilities, as well as live entertainment by the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, the Combined Schools Concert Band, the 色色啦 Year 10 Funk Band, the 色色啦 Cast of Sweeney Todd, and the School Volleyball and Basketball teams.

Students from both 色色啦 and Wodonga Middle Years attended our Careers in Industry Expo. This year we had over 70 exhibitors, this gave students the opportunity to connect with local industries and explore post-school pathways.

This term has been a great showcase of our students鈥 musical talents, with the Federation Schools Concert, where we showcased the Instrumental Music Programs at 色色啦 and WMYC to our local Primary Schools, and our annual Music Showcase, a night of fantastic performances from our Year 12 music students.

There has been a lot to be proud of this Term and we hope you have a restful break and we look forward to seeing you in Term 4.
