Each year around 3000 students from across more than 200 Victorian Government schools gather to celebrate their rich and diverse arts culture in song and dance at Melbourne Arena as part of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular. After months of rehearsals beginning in early March, Year 11 student Abbey Copeland and Year 12 student Tegan Debnam will join in this celebration to be held later in the week across two shows on Saturday September 14th.

Up in lights – Year 11 student Abbey Copeland and Year 12 student Tegan Debnam will join this year’s State Schools Spectacular

Dance student Abbey Copeland will join 19 other students as Principle Dancers in this year’s production, with this being her second time in the role after joining the principle dance team in 2018. Abbey will be performing a 7 pieces alongside the other dancers in the 2019 spectacular, saying “it’s the experience that keeps you coming back”, adding “The scale of the event is something unlike anything else that you will be part of, it’s massive”.

Tegan will be one of the assistant stage managers for this year’s Victorian State School Spectacular, working closely with the principal dancers and Abbey in this year’s show. Attending rehearsals since March in the lead up to the event, Tegan has been able to interact with the cast and gain some valuable hands on experience in the field, recently meeting all 91 of the members of the student crew.

Tegan has played an active role within local theatre companies, assisting with the coordination of the behind-the-scenes and technical work associated with these productions including our very own College productions, working in the role of Stage Manager in this year’s production of Matilda.

Both Tegan and Abbey have strong passions for their craft, each studying subjects that support their interests and career aspirations at the College. We wish the girls all the best with this exciting opportunity.
